MÝVATN NATURE BATHS

An absolute must visit for all those who head up North on the Ring Road, the Mývatn Nature Baths are surrounded by versatile natural beauty and filled with alkaline, mineral rich waters. The natural composition of the water make any artificial chemicals unnecessary, while the elements occurring naturally are considered to have positive effects on the skin and respiratory system. During the long summer eves nothing compares with staying in the lagoon under the midnight sun.

The Mývatn Nature Baths are located near to the geothermal area of Hverir and Námaskarð, as well as the delicate nature reserve of Lake Mývatn. The intensely blue colour of the water resembles that of a somewhat better known lagoon, while the Mývatn Nature Baths have the advantage of an idyllic panorama and smaller crowds.  The steam baths have windows so that you can enjoy the view while steam rises up through holes in the floor, as they are built on top of a geothermal area.

The Mývatn Nature Baths opened on the 30th of June 2004 and have been growing and developing ever since. The area, despite its northerly location, enjoys a temperate climate, and while the long bright summer days can be surprisingly warm, winter tends to bring lots of snow and frost, as well as the unforgettable northern lights.

Tourist services in the fragile Mývatn nature reserve have been developed in such a way as to cause minimal disruption to the a unique and highly delicate ecosystem.
