VOLCANIC ERUPTION HELICOPTER TOUR

FROM 63,900 ISK

The Volcanic Eruption Helicopter tour barely needs an introduction. Fly by helicopter to the previously erupted volcano site at Geldingadalur. Also known as the Fagradalsfjall volcano. Fly across the desolate, scarred landscape of the Reykjanes Peninsula, and hover over the volcanic area.

***The Volcano Status – updated 10th July 2023***
The volcano has started to erupt again as of the 10th of July 2023 in a more remote area of the Reykjanes Peninsula. Civil Authorities have advised against any attempt to visit on foot.

The volcano at Geldingadalur started to erupt again on the 3rd of August, 2022 after almost a year of dormancy. The big difference now is that the fresh lava flow is more remote and far away from any roads. This means any attempt to walk to it is a full day trip and only recommended for strong hikers with lots of spare time. In short, the volcanic eruption hike isn’t for everyone. Thankfully, our friends at Atlantsflug can take you there instead.

On this approximate 45 minute tour you are taken on an exhilarating helicopter flight over the Reykjanes Peninsula. Before you know it, you will see the glowing crater and fresh lava from the volcanic eruption site in Geldingadalur. A comfortable Atlantflug’s 4-5 seat helicopter offers everyone spectacular views of the volcano on the way.

No walking is required.

This tour has a 4 person minimum to go and is available as private upon request.

The Volcanic Eruption Site

From above you will get to witness the massive volcanic crater bubbling and spraying lava into the air. Rivers of lava flow like water from the crater. Slow moving lava glows across a large area. Smoke and steam billow out of this newly formed feature. Even the cooled black, glistening lava fields are likes something from a J R R Tolkien novel. The crater acts differently every time it is visited but one thing is for sure, it will always be a spectacular view from above (while it’s still erupting).

The volcano is a natural wonder and we cannot guarantee visible lava at the time of your tour.

Please note, on this tour you do not land at the volcano site. All views are from the helicopter.
