REYKJAVÍK SUMMIT HELICOPTER TOUR

FROM 31,900 ISK

See our favourite city from another angle with NORÐURFLUG. On this short-and-sweet sightseeing flight you will get some incredible views over Reykjavik’s vibrant cityscape and the mountains that surround the world’s northernmost capital. As you take off smoothly from near the domestic airport, you’ll see how quickly the city gets smaller and smaller beneath you, with every turn of the helicopter’s wings.

The views will get even better as you fly to and land on one of the many nearby peaks. Here you’ll have take in and capture an amazing panorama of the vast blue ocean that hugs the city shore with the numerous small islands scattered in the distance. You’ll see the crumbling mountains behind you that, with their grandeur, will simply take your breath away. From up here you will understand why Reykjavik is referred to as “Smoky Bay”, with the steaming volcanic hillsides surrounding the city. From the top of the mountain you’ll gaze over quaint and colourful settlements that sprawl out in the distance and into the vast Arctic and beyond.

Needless to say, this sightseeing tour will leave you feeling more acquainted to Iceland and it’s majestic landscape. The total duration of the tour is 30-45 minutes with a 15-20 minute guided helicopter flight and a 15 minute landing on a nearby mountain. The mountain that you land on will depend on weather and helicopter type.

Don’t miss this chance to experience Reykjavík in a completely different way with Nordurflug.

LOCATION:

The Norduflug base is on the east side of Reykjavik Domestic Airport beside the domestic airline Eagle Air. It is behind hotel “Icelandair Reykjavik Natura” next to the airport control tower. The address is Nauthóslvegur 58d. It is a short 5 minutes drive from the City Center. In the following link you can find a map of the location: https://goo.gl/maps/41rOp

Getting there by taxi is an easy option with it being a short drive. For those arriving by car there is free parking outside Norðurflug’s office. There is a bus station close to their location called Nauthólsvegur. For information on buses please visit the website www.bus.is On a nice day we also recommend walking. It takes about 30 minutes to walk to us from Hallgrímskirkja cathedral. The area surrounding the domestic airport has some very nice sights to see on the walk too. We also recommend walking by the Nauthólsvík thermal beach and the viewing deck on top of the famous glass dome, the Pearl. To Pearl is situated on top of Öskjuhlíð where you’ll find many bicycling and walking paths which are popular amongst Icelanders.

GOOD TO KNOW:

We suggest that you wear warm layered clothing, it is Iceland after all. The wind can be cold although it’s sunny! From October to mid-April we recommend winter clothing. The volcanic ground in Iceland is uneven, rocky and rough. Sturdy toe-covered shoes like hiking boots are highly recommended. In the winter and on glacier landing tours it is especially important to wear good shoes since you’ll be walking on the snow. You are of course welcome to wear sneakers but your feet will most likely get wet and cold. Sitting in a helicopter itself is not cold, it is similar to sitting in a car.

If the weather forecast is not looking promising at the time of your booked tour Norðurflug and you have a few options :
A) Try to change the time on the same day (e.g. afternoon instead of the morning).
B) Offer for you to go on a different date (e.g. the day before or the day after).
C) If they are fully booked and can not offer options A and B they always give a full refund!

You can expect any kind of weather in Iceland, and your tour might be altered or cancelled with short notice due to weather. Just like us, Norðurflug has your safety as their number one priority!
