There is no up front service fee in your itinerary outline. All fees are embedded into the overall price of the package tour, where a margin is added to the rates we receive from our partners and suppliers. This allows Hidden Iceland to avoid having to charge a flat fee, which in return keeps the overall package tour price fair.
Once you and your Travel Expert have come to a final itinerary that you are happy to proceed with, then our Travel Expert will go ahead and make all the necessary arrangements for the self-drive tour. Once the deposit and balance payment has been paid, our team starts putting the final touches on the itinerary. You will receive your step-by-step itinerary no later than 2 weeks before your arrival. Once you have had the chance to look over the itinerary, you can set up a time for a call with your Travel Expert to go over any questions before your arrival to Iceland.
Each itinerary designed by our Travel Experts is bespoke to your request. During the planning phase, our Travel Experts will make sure to best work within your desired budget. This can mean combining different level of accommodation, activities, and vehicle types to fit your needs. This often ends up being less expensive than if you were to plan and book each component yourself directly. However, sometimes good deals and offers come online, and in those instances it may become cheaper doing it yourself. If you have a really low budget, then Hidden Iceland's premium service may not be the right fit for you.
We only provide quotes for the full package based on the inclusions of your itinerary. Hidden Iceland will arrange all accommodation, vehicle rental, activities and any other services as requested in said quote. Supplier rates are confidential, and therefore an itemised quote is not possible.
Hidden Iceland does not offer self-drive planning services for camper vans or camping. We provide premium itineraries, where you will stay in premium to luxury level hotels and lodges throughout your stay.
Each Iceland self drive tour package includes: hand-picked premium, luxury or exclusive accommodation throughout, vehicle rental tailored to your itinerary, all pre-booked activities and experiences, a personalised step-by-step itinerary via our mobile app, and dedicated on-the-ground support from our local team throughout your trip. Every trip is tailor-made to suit your every need. Hidden Iceland self drive tours provide the flexibility of going it alone, with luxury of working with a local expert, to support you every step of the way.
We recommend a minimum of 7 - 9 days to experience the highlights of Iceland on a self drive tour without having to change hotels each night and miss out on some of the most iconic sights including; the Golden Circle, South Coast, Vatnajökull National Park, the highlands and the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, while still including immersive activities throughout. For a more complete journey covering the full Ring Road, 11–14 days is ideal. Our travel experts will design an itinerary around your available time and the experiences most important to you.
The right vehicle depends on your itinerary and the time of year. For most of our Iceland self drive tours covering the Ring Road and South Coast, a 4x4 SUV is ideal, though the main roads are well-maintained and considered easy to drive on in the summer months. If your itinerary includes F-roads, highland routes or outside of the warmer summer months, we may suggest larger 4WD vehicles, though for true off-road experiences we will often include local experts to take you in custom vehicles in those moments. Your Hidden Iceland travel expert will recommend the most suitable vehicle as part of your tailor-made package.
