This incredible whale watching tour starts from the old harbour of Reykjavik. During the puffin season (early May to mid August) you will start by visiting the puffins in their natural habitat on the nearby islands of the bay. Then you will cruise out over Faxaflói Bay in search of whales & dolphins. Few things will beat this personal and up close experience of seeing whales and dolphins from the customised RIB boats. After the whale safari the trip back to Reykjavik cruises along the shoreline of the city, experiencing a unique view from the sea, which is perfect for unique photos of the city.
The boats are specially designed to get you closer to the whales and birdlife and their speed and manoeuvrability gives you the ability to cover more area in the search of the incredible wildlife in the bay. When possible we switch the engines off completely to give the wildlife (and you) the serenity to fully enjoy the nature. On the way back to the harbour you will cruise past the Sun Voyager sculpture and the harbour side of Iceland’s most famous building, the glittering Harpa Concert Hall.

There is an age limit of 10 years or 145 cms tall to go on the RIB boats.

Cancellations due to weather: Sometimes this tour is cancelled due to winds in the main whale habitat area. In such an event you are offered three choices: You can re-book your tour at a later date without any additional costs. Sometimes the bigger sightseeing ships are sailing (they sail in more wind then the RIB boats) and you can go on this tour instead (being refunded the difference). Or you can take a full refund. Stay in contact with Whale Safari regarding this.
The incredible Whale Safari Whale Guarantee: If you don´t see whales on your RIB tour (very unlikely) you can go again for free, this time around trying the bigger boats. And get this, you can choose where you go again, in Reykjavík or in Akureyri in North Iceland.
You will be provided with warm flotation suits and all safety equipment.
Dress warmly for the cold North Atlantic ocean. Bring warm outdoor clothing like a wool or fleece sweater, some warm headgear and gloves. Sturdy shoes are recommended.
Meeting point is at the Whale Safari Office located on Ægisgarður in the Old Reykjavík Harbour.
Hotel pick ups are available upon request to info@whalesafari.is and start 45 minutes before your chosen departure time. Please be ready to leave from the front of your hotel reception or agreed pick up location.
