FROM 29,900 ISK
This is your chance to visit one of the most stunningly blue ice caves that forms in an outlet glacier of the biggest glacier in Iceland. The ice caves are a natural wonder of the Vatnajökull region. This is an incredible experience that many people will never get and our friends at Local Guide of Vatnajökull can take you there.
On this full winter day trip, you are driven to a nearby outlet glacier of the Vatnajökull icecap in a customised super jeep vehicle. From the parking area you are lead on a hike for around 1.5 hours mostly on the glacial ice until you reach the ice cave. Once at the cave you will have time to explore, take in the deep blue ice and to take photos. This tour does involve walking on uneven terrain and is reasonably physical, so a higher level of fitness is required. The walk is over mostly flat terrain, but is sustained walking for at least one hour. For this reason the tour is also capped to eight clients per guide. You should be prepared with food, drink and clothing to be out in the elements for 5-6 hours. The wind in Iceland on the glaciers can be cold and fierce.

GOOD TO KNOW:
The ice caves visited on this tour are on a far more remote part of the glacier, however other tour groups can sometimes be in the cave at the same time. This tour does not go the the Crystal Ice Cave, which is more easily accessed and often much busier. See the Ice Cave tour to go to an easier access cave, which involves minimal hiking.

Your safety is of the utmost importance to Local Guides. Ice Cave tours are weather dependent and sometimes tours have to be cancelled with short notice due to unsafe weather conditions. After periods of adverse weather, the caves can become flooded or unsafe to enter. If this happens we will always do our best to offer an alternative cave if available or a glacier hike if weather conditions allow. If this is not suitable then Local Guides will also always offer a full refund.
