FIRE & ICE HELICOPTER TOUR

125,900 ISK

The Fire & Ice flight combines of a few of Norðurflug’s most popular tours and it includes two landings, one on a glacier and one on a volcano! The adventure starts in Reykjavik Domestic Airport where you’ll board one of Norðurflug’s amazing helicopters and be whisked straight to the Þórisjökull glacier for your first landing.

On the way to the glacier you’ll fly over the highest waterfall of Iceland – Glymur. Save hours of hiking and look at it from the most comfortable seat in the sky! Once you reach the glacier, you’ll get the chance to take a walk on it, take memorable photos, throw a snow ball, make snow angels, or simply enjoy the view and take a deep breath of the fresh, crisp air.

After the glacier you’ll continue to Þingvellir National Park, one of the attractions on the famous Golden Circle, where the historic parliament site is located and where Iceland‘s largest natural lake is. Right there, you’ll witness the continental drift of the Eurasian and the North American tectonic plates that’s only fully visible from above. The second landing of this tour is in the Hengill geothermal area, which got its name from the Hengill volcano, situated in a remote valley accessible only through hours of hiking or by a helicopter. This valley has hot springs and boiling mud pots that you can walk right up to. It is a magical place that is beautiful throughout the year. The major sights you will see on this flight include Þórisjökull Glacier, Glymur Waterfall, Þingvellir National Park and Hengill Geothermal Area. The total duration of the tour is 110-140 minutes, which is made up of a 60-80 minute guided helicopter flight and a 15 minute landing on a glacier and a 15 minute landing by a remote geothermal area on an old volcano.

Don’t miss this chance to see some of Iceland’s amazing sights in ways others could only imagine.

LOCATION:

The Norduflug base is on the east side of Reykjavik Domestic Airport beside the domestic airline Eagle Air. It is behind hotel “Icelandair Reykjavik Natura” next to the airport control tower. The address is Nauthóslvegur 58d. It is a short 5 minutes drive from the City Center. In the following link you can find a map of the location: https://goo.gl/maps/41rOp

Getting there by taxi is an easy option with it being a short drive. For those arriving by car there is free parking outside Norðurflug’s office. There is a bus station close to their location called Nauthólsvegur. For information on buses please visit the website www.bus.is On a nice day we also recommend walking. It takes about 30 minutes to walk to us from Hallgrímskirkja cathedral. The area surrounding the domestic airport has some very nice sights to see on the walk too. We also recommend walking by the Nauthólsvík thermal beach and the viewing deck on top of the famous glass dome, the Pearl. To Pearl is situated on top of Öskjuhlíð where you’ll find many bicycling and walking paths which are popular amongst Icelanders.

GOOD TO KNOW:

We suggest that you wear warm layered clothing, it is Iceland after all. The wind can be cold although it’s sunny! From October to mid-April we recommend winter clothing. The volcanic ground in Iceland is uneven, rocky and rough. Sturdy toe shoes like hiking boots are highly recommended. In the winter and on glacier landing tours it is especially important to wear good shoes since you’ll be walking on the snow. You are of course welcome to wear sneakers but your feet will most likely get wet and cold. Sitting in a helicopter itself is not cold, it is similar to sitting in a car.

If the weather forecast is not looking promising at the time of your booked tour Norðurflug and you have a few options :
A) Try to change the time on the same day (e.g. afternoon instead of the morning).
B) Offer for you to go on a different date (e.g. the day before or the day after).
C) If they are fully booked and can not offer options A and B they always give a full refund!

You can expect any kind of weather in Iceland, and your tour might be altered or cancelled with short notice due to weather. Just like us, Norðurflug has your safety as their number one priority!
