Iceland Westfjords Tour Itinerary with Hidden Iceland
Day 1 | Northward Bound
Farm Delights & Heydalur Haven
Embark on our Westfjords Iceland tour adventure, departing Reykjavík and heading north. A scenic journey unfolds as we traverse Hvalfjörður, the whale fjord. Our first stop is Erpsstaðir Dairy Farm, offering a guided tour by the farmer, unveiling the intricacies of Icelandic farm life and the production of Skyr, cheese, and ice cream. Sample their delectable products before lunch. The day concludes at Heydalur Guest house, nestled in a serene valley. Explore the farm’s offerings—hiking, geothermal pools, orchards, and sauna. Cap off the day with a delightful dinner at the on-site restaurant.
Day 2 | Ísafjörður Exploration
Puffins & Coastal Charms
Begin the day with Heydalur’s buffet breakfast, savouring local flavours and traditions. Explore the grounds before venturing deeper into the Westfjords. In Súðavík, learn about the Arctic Fox at the Arctic Fox Centre, a rescue centre. Continue west to Ísafjörður, the ‘capital of the Westfjords.’ Enjoy lunch and embark on a guided boat tour to Vigur Island, experiencing stunning views, close encounters with seals, and, in summer, sightings of puffins. Dinner awaits at Tjöruhúsið restaurant (please note, dinner is not included). Conclude the day at a guest house in Önundarfjörður fjord.
Looking to tailor this day? Embark on a boat trip to the remote Hornstrandir Nature Reserve, where the Arctic Fox lives and is the only place in Iceland where they are completely protected. Here you’ll visit Hesteyri—a village of preserved 1900s houses still used by their owners in summer. Walk along the beach and to the church with your guide, who’ll tell you stories from the area along the way. Round off with a warming hot drink and traditional pastries before cruising back to the mainland.
Day 3 | Dynjandi’s Majesty
Cliffside Marvels & Shipwreck Wonders
An early start takes us to Dynjandi, an awe-inspiring waterfall nestled in the mountains. Hike past smaller falls to reach the grandeur of Dynjandi, revealing in panoramic views. Head toward Bíldudalur and Patreksfjörður, checking into Hotel West. Explore Látrabjarg cliffs, Iceland’s westernmost point, a haven for seabirds, and Garðar BA 64, a poignant shipwreck. The day concludes in the town of Patreksfjörður after an exhilarating day.
Day 4 | Homeward Bound
Viking Heritage & Crater Vistas
After breakfast, the final leg of our four-day journey south begins, winding around fjords and over mountains. Enjoy guided stops at favourite viewpoints before a tour of Eiríksstaðir, a recreated Viking longhouse. Visit the impressive Grábrók crater, walking along the crater edge for panoramic views. Return to Reykjavík in the early evening, letting the wonders of the past four days settle in.
