The South Coast & Glacier Wonders
Your private Hidden Iceland guide will pick you up from your accommodation to commence the Tailor-Made Iceland Hiking Retreat tour. Experience the awe-inspiring beauty of Iceland’s South Coast, where dramatic landscapes and natural wonders await. As we explore the entire south coast, we’ll encounter iconic sites such as Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls. Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach and the picturesque town of Vík.
As we journey further east, we soon start to see Iceland’s tallest mountains and vast glaciers. This is where the hiking adventures begin, as we gear up for a glacier hike on one of the outlet glaciers from Europe’s largest glacier within Vatnajökull National Park. Traverse crevasses and marvel at towering ice sculptures and other unique glacier features, with panoramic views from the glacier’s ice fall. The hikes can be tailored to your preference, from intermediate to advanced. For more information on the glacier hike, read through our Glacier Hike Guide.
We will ensure that we allow time to take in the enchanting beauty of Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. Here, we’ll witness giant icebergs floating in the tranquil waters where curious sometimes seals pop their heads up. Right next to the lagoon is the Diamond Beach, where the icebergs wash up to from the lagoon. This UNESCO World Heritage Site offers abundant natural wonders to explore, ensuring an enriching and unforgettable experience.
Where do we stay? We’ll stay in the south-east, on the edge of Vatnajökull National Park.
The Southern Highlands & Mt. Kerlingarfjöll
After spending a few days exploring the glaciers, our tour takes us back west. We will continue to explore more south coat wonders as we make our way back, and spend a day exploring Þakgil’s hidden treasures. Þakgil is one of the areas less visited, certainly more hidden, with various hiking routes to choose from.
We continue on and venture into the heart of Iceland’s southern highlands for an unforgettable stay in Mt. Kerlingarfjöll. This region is a hiker’s paradise, offering a diverse range of trails that cater to all levels of experience. Whether you prefer a series of shorter hikes, half-day adventures, or full-day treks, you’ll be surrounded by some of Iceland’s most dramatic scenery. The rugged beauty of the highlands is complemented by the geothermal activity in Kerlingarfjöll, where steaming vents and hot springs create an otherworldly landscape. For an added thrill, e-mountain biking is available, allowing you to explore even more of this stunning region.
Where do we stay? We will spend a minimum of two nights at Highlands Base in the heart of Mt. Kerlingarfjöll.
