Reykjavík Day Tour City Highlights

Our Reykjavik day tour gives you a comprehensive overview of the city’s highlights, followed by a local lunch stop. The rest of the day is dedicated to experiencing the dramatic, geologically active coastline of Reykjanes, keeping you immersed in Iceland’s wild nature. The tour focuses on intimate and authentic experiences, ensuring a day of genuine discovery.

Part 1 | Estimated 2–3 hours
Capital City Culture

We begin by touring the key landmarks of Reykjavík, giving you an insight into the city’s history, architecture, and daily life. All locations and timings are indicative only and at the discretion of your expert local guide, who will amend the day based on your desires, availability and weather conditions. Depending on inclement weather, a visit, and entry fee to a local museum or art gallery in the Reykjavík area may be included to ensure a rich and enjoyable experience. The primary focus, however, is to remain outside in nature.

  • Hallgrímskirkja Church: Visit Iceland’s iconic, towering church, famous for its unique architecture inspired by basalt columns.

  • Tjörnin Pond: A tranquil stop by “The Pond” in the city centre, a favourite spot for birdwatching and observing local life.

  • Grótta Lighthouse: A scenic drive out to the stunning coastline near the city’s edge for views of the Atlantic Ocean and the rugged headland.

  • Sun Voyager: This relatively new art installation is perfectly placed to give breathtaking views of the harbour and opposing Esja mountains.
  • Lunch Stop: We will stop at a favourite local establishment in the Reykjavík area for lunch (cost of meal is not included).

Part 2 | 4–5 hours
Reykjanes Peninsula Tour Highlights

After lunch, we transition to the rugged, geothermal landscapes of the Reykjanes Peninsula, a UNESCO Global Geopark, barely 20 minutes from the outskirts of Reykjavík City. Here is where the Reykjanes Peninsula tour begins.

  • Bessastaðir: Stop to see Iceland’s official presidential residence, a historically significant estate often referred to as Iceland’s White House.

  • Krýsuvík & Seltún: Explore the surreal geothermal area, known for its steaming fumaroles, boiling mud pots, and vibrant, multicoloured mineral deposits.

  • Gunnuhver Geothermal Area: Witness the powerful steam vents and immense mud pots of Gunnuhver, Iceland’s largest mud pool, named after a local ghost.

  • Reykjanesviti Lighthouse: Stand beneath the towering lighthouse on the dramatic Reykjanestá headland, offering breathtaking coastal views where the Atlantic meets the land.

  • Bridge Between Continents: Walk across the symbolic footbridge spanning the Mid-Atlantic Rift, marking the boundary between the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates.
