We combine our Golden Circle: Platinum Tour with our Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon 2 Day Tour ensuring you will see all of Icelands most incredible sights, without being rushed, during your short stay in Iceland. These 3 days can be done year round, with all the locations being just as breathtaking in each season.
• Bathe in the Secret Lagoon hot pool & taste geothermally grown food at the Friðheimar tomato farm
• Golden Circle sights; exploding Geysir, Gullfoss Waterfall & Þingvellir National Park
• The icebergs at the Glacier Lagoon (Jökulsárlón) & Diamond Beach littered with ice glittering like diamonds.
• Reynisfjara black sand beaches, walking behind a waterfall (Seljalandsfoss) and being drenched by the Skogafoss waterfall.
• Hiking on the moving Falljökull glacier at the edge of the mighty Vatnajökull National Park in the Skaftafell area. Designed for first timers with moderate fitness levels. Ice sculptures, crevasses and bottomless holes (moulins) are common sights on the way up to the ice fall.
The Day to Day Itinerary
Our first two days gives you the time to take in the impressive Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls, as well as the black sand beach and basalt columns at Reynisfjara. You’ll get up close and personal to the astonishingly beautiful ice formations of an outlet glacier of the enormous Vatnajökull Icecap, getting unbeatable views of the ice fall, and the blue ice within a glacier cave in winter. You’ll be mesmerised by the giant icebergs floating around the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. If you’re lucky, you can spot some curious seals swimming around the lagoon, as well as large crystals of ice from the same lagoon washed up on the nearby Diamond Beach, sparkling on the black sand. On top of that, you get to explore the endless moss covered Eldhraun lava fields from the devastating Laki eruption and be in awe of the incredible Fjaðrárgljúfur gorge.
During winter months there’s a chance you’ll be able to see the northern lights dancing across the sky, whilst the summer lets you experience the endless sun filled nights in the countryside, with incredible views over the glaciers and mountains in the midnight sun. The south-east of Iceland is one of our favourite areas. You will find out why over these two magical days.
After the breathtaking hike on the Falljökull glacier on the second day we head back west, staying overnight at one of our favourite south coast hotels. Hotel VOS is perfectly placed to venture into the Golden Circle on Day 3!
The Day to Day Itinerary
On Day 3 we commence our tour through the Golden Circle region, which is an adventure of all our handpicked sites from this famous region of Iceland. This includes the Secret Lagoon and lunch within the greenhouse of Friðheimar Tomato Farm. This popular region is rich with history and boasts powerful waterfalls, geothermal hot pools, erupting geysers, separating continental plates, as well as delicious food production.
We depart our comfortable South Iceland accomodation and head straight to warm up and soak in the natural hot springs of the Secret Lagoon, Iceland’s oldest natural swimming pool. We will be there early, when it is quietest, allowing us to truly relax and soak in the magic of this wonderful geothermal pool. A great way to start the day!
Afterwards, we will warm up by enjoying a unique lunch inside the tomato greenhouse farm Friðheimar. There they produce over one tonne of tomatoes each day. Having lunch amongst all the tomato plants in the greenhouse is something we are sure you will never forget. We will be able to try their famous tomato soup, ravioli pasta or grilled tortilla pizza, homemade bread, as well as hot beverages. Lunch is included in the price of this tour.
Next we get to witness the force of Gullfoss, one of Iceland’s most powerful waterfalls. On sunny days, rainbows appear in the mist of this golden hued waterfall. From there, it is only a short drive to see the wonders of the geothermal area of Geysir, the original exploding geyser, and its surrounding steam vents.
After all this we drive onto the famous Þingvellir National Park. This National Park holds historical and geological significance and Þingvellir is the site of the first known parliament in the world, where many of Iceland’s most important decisions were made. It is also a place of incredible beauty, sitting in the rift valley of the separating North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. From there, it’s a short drive back into town, reaching Reykjavik in time for dinner.
