Then the Black Beach horseback riding tour with Skálakot is exactly what you’re looking for. This 3 hour tour will give those with some riding experience the chance to really get to know the Icelandic horse’s gait and character, while riding through lakes and along the vast beaches of Iceland’s South Coast.

Skálakot’s experienced guides will lead you through the incredible South Coast landscape, shaped by volcanic eruptions from Eyjafjallajökull and Katla volcano. On clear days you’ll be able to enjoy a 360° view of the surrounding mountains, prosperous farmlands, the stunning Westman Islands and all sorts of wildlife, depending on the season. Once at the black beach you can enjoy absolute quiet and hopefully spot a few seals swimming nearby.

Since their founding in 1985, Skálakot Manor Farm has been a popular locations in Iceland for horseback riding. Their main focus has always been to keep the experience small and personal. The horse guides are a dedicated team of professional horse trainers who share a passion for the Icelandic horse and and nature. Level of difficulty
This tour is considered to be moderate difficulty level. The black beach tour is a rather long distance tour that requires a good balance and good physical condition.

Cancellations due to weather
Sometimes this tour is cancelled due to winds in the main area. In such an event you are offered two choices: You can re-book your tour at a later date without any additional costs. Or you can take a full refund. Stay in contact with Skálakot regarding this.

You will be provided with rain gear if needed and all horse riding safety equipment.

As this tour does run all through the year it’s important to dress appropriately for the season. Bring warm outdoor clothing like a wool or fleece sweater, some warm headgear and gloves. Sturdy shoes are recommended.
